Wizard's Tale

Once in a great while extrordinary things happen to ordinary people, and this is a tale about such. A tale of magical porportions you might say. To fully understand the seriousness of this tale we must start at the begining, but isnt that the way all great tales start?

This beginning will differ from that of any other tale you may have heard or read, because the beginning of this tale is hard to truely find. Why, you may ask? Well this tale is about four people, all with different beginnings whos life's otherwise enterwine with a common goal.

This is a tale of four friends; Elizabeth, Angela, Corwin and Gabrielle and how they ended up in a place called the Spiral. How these friends came to be in the Spiral I can not say, save for one, because I am one of these friends, I am Gabrielle, Gabby to my friends.

It was an ordainary night and I was sitting in my favorite chair, a glass of tea sitting on the table beside me and a good book in my hand, when it began to thunder. At first the rain hit the window pane with a saoft pitter patter, then as if the Storm Lord himself was perched upon a cloud directly above my house, the storm intensified. The rain poured down in sheets, lightning lit up the dark night and the thunder was so loud it shook the windows and caused my head to pound. I closed my eyes and could still see the flashes of light as the lightning made its journey from the heavens to the earth below. Having loved storms with all thier power and mystic all my life I was drawn to the window like a moth to a flame, and as I raised the blind to peer out into storm ravaged night I knew this was no ordanary storm.

There were flashes of spiraling lights in green, red, blue, yellow, purple and pink and they were moving closer to my window. I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared, terrified even. Never in all my life had I seen such a storm as this.

I was mezmerized by the colors and swriling lights when all of a sudden a portal began to open in the middle of them. At first what was a small circle of bright white light the size of a grapefruit that soon began to grow and grow. The wall before of me began to fade then disappear all together as a strange vacumn from the portal began to pull me toward it. As much as I tried to fight it I was sucked into the portal and into some sort of office. There were books piled in every corner, on tables, bookshelves, on the floor and on the large desk that domionated the room.

Then I heard a strange voice of an old man saying. "A-ha! The Spell is working! Look, Gamma! Finally, we have found one! A young Wizard! A student with amazing potential....enough, perhaps, to save Wizard City!" The old man was answered by an owl, What? A talking owl? "Whooo? Where? " "A very, very distant realm...My goodness! On a world that does not even believe in magic! I wonder what manner of Wizard they might become." Before I could udder a word the old man turned and opens some ancient looking book, then looked back at me. "Answer these questions to find out what type Wizard you are."

I tried agruging, telling the old man I am no wizard, I am an average person with a family and friends, and I demanded to know where I was and why I was brought here. The old man chuckled took me by the hand and explained. "You are no average person, you have the potential to become a great wizard, maybe even greater than myself, Merle Ambrose, headmaster of the Ravenwood school of Magical Arts. That is why you were choosen. I brought you here to the Spiral to help save Wizard City. I know this is a lot to handle right now, but we really need your help, and I have serached far and wide for you and others like you. So please young wizard, please answer these questions for me."

He proceded to ask me questions such as do I like working with others, what I thought was more powerful, a sandstorm, palgue or hurricane, what my favorite time of day is and what my favorite animal is. Then seeming very pleased he smiled to himself, turned to me and said, "I knew you were a storm student the first time I saw you." I thought it funny when he said this becuase in the next breath he told me his vision was failing and asked if I were a boy or a girl and what I look like. I was then guided into a room full of hats, robes and shoes. As I dressed the old wizard spoke through the door. "Bye the way young wizard, what is your name?" "My name is Gabrielle", I amswered in somewhat of a shaky voice, "But I fear you are mistaken sir, I am no wizard." Again he chuckled and asked me to meet him outside his tower when I had finished dressing.

Once outside I was greeted by Headmaster Ambrose and his pet owl Gamma. "We are expecting great things from you. But first things first. My owl would like a word with you if you dont' mind." I walked over to the owl, was this some trick, owls can't really talk, can they? "Hellooo! My name is Gamma the Owl, and I am quite pleased to meet yooou! Gamma then told me what acomplishments were needed to become a Master Wizard, such as learn every spell in my class, that wizard's love to duel and that the more spells I learn the better a duelist I would be. Spells, wizards, duels? My head was spinning. As I was trying to absorb all this new information the ground began to shake and it started to rain. "Whooo?" shouted Gamma and Headmaster Ambrose turning to me replied, "How odd! Come along Gaberielle, let's investigate the matter! Meet me in the tower!"

Through the rain and lightning I ran into the tower behind Headmaster Ambrose, stopping short when I saw before me a very tall sinister looking man. "Who's there?" asked Ambrose, "Malistaire!......You are no longer welcome here! Why have you returned?" "I am here to resolve our unfinished business!", then turning to me he looked down his nose and sneered, "Is this your latest student? Ha! My henchmen will see to your...little firend!" Then shoving a deck of spell cards into my hand Ambrose shouted to me, "Hurry Gabriellle, take this deck and deal with those creatures while I tend to Malistaire! Be brave, Gabrielle, you have the power or I would not have brought you here."

Before I had time to think or ask one small question I found my self facing what I can only describe as two creatures who looked like small dragons called Draconians. I cast my first spell and caused damage to one of the Draconians. Ambrose seemed pleased and I shocked that I had the ability to do this. With the guidence from the headmaster I managed to cast more spell, heal myself and defeat the Malistaire's henchmen. "Excellent work, Gabrielle! Now let me see to Malistaire....I'll show him...threatening a new student before orientation, no less." "Another time, old man.....I have what I came for.", and then in a blink of an eye Malistaire was gone.
Headmaster Amborse then restored me to full health, and as he handed me a wand and a spell book softy said, "I should say, Gabrielle, that I was quite impressed with your courage. There is little doubt but that a great destiny awaits you. Now if you will be so kind as to deliver this letter to Private Stillson at the Unicorn Way gate, he will let you through so you can begin your studies."

And that is how I came to the Sprial. I have met many other wizards, such as myself along the way. But, as I said at the begining, this is a tale of four wizrds and where it ends? Not even I know that.
